Las Vegas, Nevada
May 30, 2010
Well i’m a little behind on updates again, but he’s one from a couple days ago and I’ll have a couple more updates later today when I reach Portland!
When I started this trip I made a pit stop at my home in Colorado, in order to see my family for a couple days before taking off. During this time I found out that my sister would be making a trip down to Las Vegas, and would be there at the same time I was driving through. So how could I pass up the chance to hang out with her and her boyfriend and visit a new city at the same time. Now I could write on and on about Las Vegas, it is definitely an interesting city. As I was walking the city and could see that the typical sterotypes to be true, a city filled with gambling, drinking, and sexual immorality; I couldn’t help but think now that this city makes for a perfect metaphor to the human condition. A city in search of fulfillment, the promise of a better future, and the hope for things unseen; but a city lost and depraved; rotten to the core. Perhaps I will flesh that thought out more at a later time.
So while, visiting the city I was able to have lunch and talk with my sister and her boyfriend for a bit, we went back to the hotel and promptly lost a couple bucks playing the video poker machine, these machines are not in your favor my friend. I then walked the city, which has a number of fantastic art galleries and other attractions for people to see, if you’re not into gambling. The Bellagio pictured here also has some great art, old architecture, and a fantastic water show that people gather to see every 30 minutes or so. I decided to try my hand at the video poker/blackjack again, this time I was goin big, I put a 5 dollar bill into that machine and whew… I thought I was doing good! was up about $15 and should have just cashed out and ran, but nope decided to keep playing. A couple loses, followed by the machine cheating and dealing itself two blackjacks in a row and I was out. Total loss $8… ha! All in all a pretty neat city, that needs a lot of prayer; but don’t we all!
